Painting »Die Dorfmatratze«

DE: Der Feldhase mit Fellnase sucht eine Vase, denn Blumen liebt er über die Maße. Neben der Straße Plastik und Dosen, hoppla, ihm fehlen ja seine Hosen! Hingehockt, damit niemand des Angsthasen Karotte erspäht, peinlich berührt, ein Igel weitergeht. Solch eine riesengroße Blamage und noch immer keine Blumenvase! Ein vorbeihirschender Hirsch auf der Pirsch, knabbernd an seinem Pumpernickel, dachte sich nur: »Die treiben es ja wie die Karnickel!« Unser Häschen aber, nicht am Rammeln, sondern nur am Stammeln: »M-m-mein N-Name ist H-Hase und ich w-weiß v-von n-nichts!« Hastig hoppelt er nun zu Felde, als blitzschneller Wiesenflitzer, und riskiert einen Tempo-Limit-Blitzer. Wo sich Fuchs und Hase gute Nacht sagen, verblasst jedes Klagen. Alles egal, wer braucht eine Vase, inmitten dieser Blüten-Oase!

EN: A field hare with a fuzzy face is desperately hunting for a vase, for flowers make his heart go boom. But roadside junk is all that looms. Then – oops! – he suddenly realizes he’s hopping around without his trousers. So down he squats, hoping no one sees the trembling carrot of this timid tease. A hedgehog strolls by, politely confused, the hare mortified, utterly bruised and still no vase for his floral muse. A stag trots past on woodland patrol, chewing his pumpernickel roll, thinking: »Those rabbits ... honestly, what a show!« But our hare, not randy, just full of woe, stammers softly, nearly in fits: »M-m-my n-name is H-Hare, I k-know n-nothing of this!« Then off he rockets through the field, a meadow missile, no brakes, no shield, risking a speed-trap flash mid-flight. Where fox and hare say goodnight, every trouble loses its bite. Who needs a vase, he finally sighs, in a blooming paradise!?
